अर्थशास्त्र म्हटलं की डोक्याचा भुगा होतो. संकल्पना , त्या मोठमोठ्या थिअरीज समजत नाहीत ? तर टेन्शन घेऊ नका. अर्थशास्त्राचा अर्थ समजून घेण्याची एक संधी आहे! इकॉनॉमिक्स क्लब ऑफ मुंबई या संस्थेने दि. ७-८ सप्टेंबरला अर्थमंथन या फेस्टिवलचं आयोजन केलंय. दोन दिवसांचा हा फेस्ट चेंबूरच्या आचार्य मराठे कॉलेजमध्ये संपन्न होणार आहे.

मुलांना अर्थशास्त्राची भिती वाटते याची अनेक कारणं आहेत , विद्यापीठाच्या अभ्यासक्रमात आवश्यक ते बदल केले जात नाहीत. वर्षानुवर्षे ठराविक साच्यातल्या संकल्पना मुलांना शिकवल्या जातात. अभ्यासाच्या , रेफरन्सच्या दृष्टीने परिपूर्ण अशी पाठ्यपुस्तकेही आज बाजारात उपलब्ध नसतात. मुळात अत्यंत रंजक असणाऱ्या या विषयाकडे वळणाऱ्या मुलांचं प्रमाणही कमी झालंय. या सगळ्यावर काहीतरी उपाययोजना करण्याच्या दृष्टीने २००१ साली इकॉनॉमिक्स क्लब ऑफ मुंबईची स्थापना करण्यात आली. गेली दहा वर्षे हीच संस्था ' अर्थमंथन ' चं आयोजन करतेय.

यंदा अर्थमंथनमध्ये अनेक मनोरंजक स्पर्धा आहेत. वादविवाद , वक्तृत्त्व अशा स्पर्धांमधून स्पर्धकांना चालू घडामोडींवर भाष्य करता येईल. याखेरीज इकॉनॉमिक कल्पनांवर आधारित कार्टून मेकिंग , पोस्टर मेकिंग याही स्पर्धांचा यात समावेश आहे. यात सगळ्यात इंटरेस्टिंग गोष्ट म्हणजे सिंगिंग इव्हेंट! दारिद्र्य , महागाई , मंदी , भ्रष्टाचार , सरकारची एखादी सुविधा अशा हट के संकल्पना घेऊन त्यावर कविता रचून गायच्या आहेत! याखेरीज भाषणे , चर्चासत्रंही या फेस्टिवलमध्ये आहेत. डोक्याला चालना देणाऱ्या आणि अर्थशास्त्राची परिभाषा बदलून टाकणाऱ्या या फेस्टला भेट द्यायलाच हवी.

Cut out Da Noose

Students have to submit recent paper cuttings, photographs, cartoons etc. from newspapers and magazines on the given theme. These have to be pasted on A4 size foolscap sheets, neatly arranged in a file. ‘Cut, Copy, Paste’ from the Net not allowed!
  Theme: Economic Reforms – the need of the hour
The cut – outs could include issues relating to lack of reforms, falling GDP & growth rate and down grades by rating agencies

Tired of the same old lectures on Economics... ever wished Eco classes were as interesting as your favourite song... well here’s your chance to make economics more fun... Prepare your own economics song and we’ll offer you the mike to sing out loud!!! These songs could be on economists like Adam Smith, David Ricardo, Marshall or on economic terms like Demand and supply, or on our ‘netas’. Well of course you have the option to set tunes on latest Bollywood hits! For more inspiration, you can check out YouTube for some interesting videos on economics!

Chak de India 
(Debate) 

Round ONE: 6 Sept - 11 am, DEBATE: 7 Sept- 10.00 am

Chak De India, the Maha Debate will have two rounds. In round one on 6th September, you have to speak your heart out on any one of the three topics given below for three minutes. 10 best speakers – fiery, passionate and sincere - will qualify for the Maha-Debate. Here they will be split into two teams for the final event, which will be held on 7th August. Through this debate we urge our youth to take the lead, to step out of their comfort zones and to clean the system
Theme for Round One: Politics – Young India is crying out for change!
TOPICS:
  What prevents the youth from entering politics?
  India growth story – is it the end of the road?
  Is 24 hr coverage the prime driver of social movements?
  Indian Media – “Paid news, sensationalism and TRPs?”

 Global Leaders Meet
(6 Sept – 2 pm)

The participating teams will play the role of economic advisers of the various world countries allotted to them in advance. The Agenda at this year’s Global Leaders Meet is ‘The Euro Crisis: Triggers and its impact on the global economy’. (Issues discussed could include causes that led to the crisis; the role of the Central Banks, the current economic scenario in the Euro Zone; how it will influence economic policies in other nations and its impact on global economy and trade). Well, you have to truly represent the country allotted to you; that could mean dressing up like them and speaking a bit of the native language too!
